The beckoning road

After the gold is gone

I shot through golden hour – amazing clouds against the beauty of the Wasatch Front.  As I was putting my gear away I looked up and saw this.  Well, not this exactly, but I could see the light and could see the processing becoming this image.  Grabbed a camera and lens and shot handheld in the darkening evening hoping it would be sharp enough to process.

I quite like it.

More from the Columbia Gorge

I love the level of detail in these bridges and walls that line the old highway in the Gorge.

I forgot my tripod back in my car, so Merrill (my shooting pal for the day) and I had to share one.  While he used it I just sat my camera on different things to try shots – I love the green fringe on this one on the bottom.  That moss is as soft as it looks and it made me think of hobbits.

Amazing Timpanogos

Seriously, this is my favorite mountain in the world. It’s like a fairy tale. This is the mountain from Narnia, the mountain from MIddle Earth – when I read those books Timpanogos is the mountain I always picture in my head…

Two nights ago there was a fire burning in Herriman, a big fire, and the smoke drifting down into my shot seemed to give a greater sense of depth, of size, of… magic.

Love this mountain. You’ll see it a lot in my work. I’ll apologize now, let us never speak of it again. 🙂

There is beauty all around

There is beauty all around.

Seriously, it is everywhere.

I’m driving back to Home Depot to return a circuit breaker and this sunset starts to shape up and I’m right in the middle of suburbia. I start thinking of where the wild places are, and remember there’s a corridor through the middle of the city where a river runs.

15 minutes later I’m sitting in this place. The fish in that pond would not stop jumping,.. perch and trout jumping six inches out of the water reflecting the amazing color of the sky.

Then I see a motion out of the corner of my eye. A doe has peeked over the top of a hill 100 feet away… her ears are alert as she watches me for a few minutes. I smile and shoot a couple of photos, look up again she’s gone.

A quarter of a mile to the north I can hear the busy traffic of a freeway exit. I’ve made this image without leaving the city.

There is beauty all around.

Landscapes

The earth is full of beauty.  Some that can be captured.  Some that cannot.

Kids

Man I love kids.  I’m not your ordinary photographer when it comes to kids.  I want the kids to be in charge!  I come to a place they are comfortable, most often their home, and get on the floor and play with them until we’re pals… then we get the camera out.  So fun.

Models

What can we shoot to add to your portfolio?  What ideas are lurking in the head of the Digital Knight ready to be unleashed?

Portraits

Let’s be interesting… let’s go to a place that inspires you, or create a world you would love to live in and shoot there.  Mostly, let’s capture the part of you that makes the world a better place.
